Witness the change.

Giving people a leg up, not a hand out.

School programme

Putting an end to educational inequality.

If all students in low-income countries had basic reading skills, almost 171 million people could escape extreme poverty. The educational systems in under-resourced regions fall short in equipping children with these vital skills.

Imagine having nowhere to sit at school.

Thousands of South African schools lack basic equipment like chairs, desks and text books. BEFSA partners with UK schools to ship multiple 40ft cargo containers full of learning resources and equipment every year to schools in desperate need. The programme not only reduces landfill, It transforms the ability for learning.

Extreme hunger distracts hungry minds.

As many as 51% of households in South Africa face extreme food insecurity. Unable to afford food, many have to survive on nutrient poor foods, or skip meals altogether.  Our nutrition programme provides a basic, nutritious meals to over 1800 people every week.

The better the teacher, the better the student.

Many children that make it to school are often met with an empty classroom or an ill-equipped teacher. Our teacher training programs strive to transform teacher quality, upskilling them with resources, tools and practical skills that will have a knock on effect to improving student attendance, academic achievement and the chance of long term employment.

A little loan makes a world of difference.

There is a staggering 32% unemployment in the areas where we work. BEFSA’s micro loans provide a leg up instead of a hand out, helping women set up their own business that can improve their lives and enrich their communities.
